Fiji · The practical details

Things to do

A beach worth staying beside, dinner at another resort, or a day on the water. Start with the holiday you actually want.

01 / Coral Coast

Stay on the mainland and enjoy the beach you came for

Our experience · beach and resort

At InterContinental, we felt little need to leave. Natadola’s warm sea at high tide, the Club pool and evenings by the beach gave the day its own rhythm.

We saw activities including kayaking, snorkelling and boat trips on offer, but have not tried them. Ask the resort about current arrangements and conditions.

02 / Denarau

A base for island days

Planning resource · excursions not tried

For us, Denarau’s beach is not its strongest draw. Pools, hotel facilities and proximity to Port Denarau can offset that. Compare what each hotel offers on the days you stay put, as well as the trips you can take.

Tourism Fiji lists island day trips from Port Denarau, with other departures from places such as Vuda Marina. Check the actual departure point and hotel pickup arrangements for your chosen trip.

Denarau beyond your own resort

Our experience · transport and dining

We enjoyed the open-sided Bula Bus for resort hopping and visits to Port Denarau. It felt like a novelty ride for our son. A multi-day pass bought partway through the stay gave us flexibility; check current fares, routes and children’s concessions.

Our dining favourites from our visits included Sofitel’s seafood buffet night and Nadina at Port Denarau for Fijian dishes and kava. Check current menus and theme-night schedules. Port Denarau also gave us convenience and souvenir shopping options.

The nearby water park looked like an option for adventurous children, but we have not visited it. We have not tried village tours or explored Nadi town either. These resort holidays were about relaxing, and we took no off-site excursions during any of the three reviewed stays.

What we would check before a day trip

Boat travel time, shade, toilets, food and drink inclusions, age restrictions and the cancellation policy all affect whether a trip will feel easy with a child. Check weather-dependent arrangements and how much time you will actually have at the destination.

We did not take off-site excursions on these stays. The suggestions here are planning pointers, not our own excursion reviews. This page contains no affiliate links.
